Obituary

Susan Ann Curley, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9th, 2025 at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines. According to her wishes, she has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in West Des Moines on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, with a gathering immediately following the service at the church. Burial of her cremated remains will be at St. Timothy's Columbarium beside her husband Martin Curley. Sue was born January 15th, 1943, in Clinton Iowa to John and Phyliss (Wolf) Cleary Jr. She moved to Geneseo, Illinois after her mother married Robert Hannon. She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1960. Her career started shortly after high school working at Rock Island Bank and after several years took a position with Olivetti Corporation selling business machines and was transferred to Des Moines, Iowa. In 1977 she started her own company Business Systems Corporation which sold computer systems and software for medical practices and industrial supply companies. In 1994 she sold her business and continued working in sales and for medical offices before retiring. In 1987 she married the love of her life, Martin Curley. Sue had one daughter Mary from a previous marriage to Harold DeVrieze, and Marty had two children Marty Jr, and Carolyn from a previous marriage to Shirley King. Sue loved spending time with her family and friends, celebrating the holidays, and she especially enjoyed her role as Grandma and Gigi (great grandma). She was active with her church and enjoyed lunches with the women at church and lecturing at the Saturday evening service. She liked to shop, travel, read, watch movies, true crime stories on tv and anything in the color purple. She loved her pet cat Stormy, and her rainbow bridge pets cocker spaniel Ginger, her bichons Sugar and Buttons, and would be happy to know that her great granddaughter will be taking her cat Stormy. Sue is survived by her daughter and friend Mary Hall (Tom), stepson Marty Curley (Julie), stepson in law Brian Maccaull (Carolyn): 8 Grandchildren Mary's children- David Cunningham (Samantha), Michael Cunningham (Madelyn), Zachary Hall, and Jake Hall and Marty Jr children Deborah Ann White (Nick), Justin Curley (Jessica), Jordan Curley and Stephen Curley. Her 7 Great Grandchildren Kendall, Walker, Scarlett and Georgia Cunningham (David and Samantha), Vada and Claudia Cunningham (Michael and Madelyn), and Adeline Curley (Justin and Jessica), her sister MariAnn Hannon, brother Tom Hannon (Stephanie), her nieces Michelle Hannon Anklam (Alex) and Rebecca Hannon Spahn (Jacob). She is preceded in life by her parents, husband Martin Curley, her stepdaughter Carolyn Macaull. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to St. Timothy Church or the ARL in Sue's name. She will remain a shining light in our everyday thoughts and will forever be missed by her family and friends.
