Stanley Dean "Deno" Nevins, 64, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home on November 16, 2022. A celebration of life will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on December 3, 2022, at Cutty's Campground Clubhouse (2500 SE 37th St., Grimes, Iowa). His memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Deno was born on February 24, 1958, in Jacksonville, North Carolina to Earl and Rita (Romine) Nevins. His family relocated to the Des Moines area, and he attended and graduated from Hoover High School. Over the years he worked at the Saydel Schools, Union Rep Painters, Haes Construction building movie theaters, and 515 Trim Works. On September 28, 2002, he married Laurie Weese and they resided in Pleasant Hill. In retirement Deno stayed busy and worked maintenance at the Senior Suites of Urbandale.
He enjoyed watch NASCAR and cheering on Chase and Bill Elliott, spending time with his family at Cutty's Campground, making new friends and seeing old friends at Cutty's Campground, hanging out at building movie theaters with his best friend Dick Haes, working with his son at 515 Trim, and spending time with Laurie at Bubs. Cutty's Campground was always a special place to Deno. He loved every minute of being there and driving his golf cart around and around meeting and talking with people. Deno also served on the board there.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife, Laurie; children Jamie Nicholson, Stanley (Brandy) Nevins, Shawna (Ryan) Campbell, and Brandon Nevins; stepchildren Brandon (Steph) Brazelton and Zachary (Nikki) Brazelton; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Bryan (Karen) Nevins; sisters Glenda (Craig) Ricket and Carol (John) Sims; and several nieces and nephews.
