Sharon Jayne Nelson, a cherished soul and steadfast companion, left this world on February 8, 2026, at the tender age of 56, in the loving care of MercyOne, Des Moines, Iowa. Her life will be honored with a memorial service, details of which will be shared soon, while a private family burial will take place at a later date.
Born on March 11, 1969, in Boone, Iowa, to Richard and Marion (Campbell) Dunkelberger, Sharon's journey began in the close-knit community of Ogden, where her heart forever beat in unison with her beloved high school, Ogden High, proudly graduating with the class of 1987 as a true Bulldog. After high school, she furthered her education at DMACC, honing her skills to become a paralegal, setting the stage for a life of dedication and service.
Sharon's spirit radiated joy and love, especially when she met Frank Nelson in 1992; together they built a life filled with warmth and laughter in Des Moines, culminating their commitment with marriage in July 2002. As a lead sales representative for Mom's Meals, Sharon reveled in the opportunity to support and nurture others, a testament to her caring nature.
Faith played a significant role in Sharon's life as she regularly attended the Methodist Church. She found immense joy in spending time with her family, soaking in the laughter and excitement of her precious grandchildren, and pouring her heart into cooking for loved ones.
Sharon leaves behind a constellation of loved ones who will carry her memory in their hearts. Surviving her is her devoted husband Frank, her children Tyrone (Keith) Hull, Tynisha Hull, and Tiffany (Justin Harlan) Hopes, alongside her treasured 11 grandchildren. She is also missed by siblings David (Misti) Dunkelberger and Susan (Randy Hoshaw) Erickson, along with a legion of nieces and nephews who cherished their time with her.
Preceding her in death are her beloved parents, whose legacy she continues to honor through the love she freely gave.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family, and for her cremation care, Celebration Life Iowa has been entrusted.
Sharon Jayne Nelson's presence will be immensely missed, yet her spirit, kindness, and love will resonate forever in the hearts she touched.
