Russell Lloyd Williams
March 7, 1946 – January 17, 2026
Russell Lloyd Williams, lovingly known as "Russ," was born on March 7, 1946, in Ames, Iowa, to Mary Ann Heick and Floyd Russell Williams. He passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, in Nevada, Iowa, just a few months before his 80th birthday.
Russ was a man of deep integrity, curiosity, and skill. He had a lifelong passion for restoring cars—especially his beloved Oldsmobile—along with NASCAR racing, watching documentaries, and playing and building guitars. Rarely was Russ not tinkering, fixing, or creating something with his hands. He also loved taking long drives and road trips across the country, finding peace and joy in the open road. One of his most treasured adventures was a camping trip to Yellowstone with his grandson Jacob, a memory that will be forever held close by his family.
Russ proudly served in the United States Navy. After his service, he returned to Iowa before moving to Denver, Colorado, where he lived for 25 years. He worked as a commercial and residential electrician in Denver and other cities, eventually retiring as a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). His work ethic, craftsmanship, and pride in his trade defined much of his life.
Russ is survived by his loving daughter, Jennifer Hay (Chris) of Ocala, Florida; his cherished grandchildren, Jacob Hay and Makenna Hay Dandeneau (Bryan); Jennifer's "Sweet Sister of Mine," Sara Cheville of Iowa, and her daughters Kira and Lindsey. He is also survived by his siblings: Alice Maland of Oregon; Marcia Stewart (Ron) of Nevada, Iowa; Dennis Williams (Becky) of Nevada, Iowa; and Christine Oartwieg (Bill) of Nevada, Iowa.
Jennifer wishes to express her deepest gratitude to Jennifer Stone, who cared for Russ for many years with compassion and devotion; Pastor Jonathan Stone, who prayed with Russ, Jennifer, their family, and grandchildren; and the loving staff of St. Croix Hospice, who helped keep Russ comfortable when Jennifer could not be by his side.
Jennifer will forever miss the frequent phone conversations with her dad and is deeply grateful that he made sure to call her shortly before he passed to say, "I love you." She will always remember her father through the words of Proverbs 20:7:
"The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him."
A small family memorial service is being planned during the Heick family reunion in July 2026 in Nevada, Iowa.
