Roger "Louie" Landt

Roger H. “Louie” Landt, 71, passed away peacefully on September 6th at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Roger was born to Lorenz and LuNida (Hoth) Landt on February 2, 1955 in Postville. He grew up on a small farm in rural Luana and graduated from MFL High School in 1971.

Roger, better known to everyone as Louie, was a hardworking, determined, and caring man who took great pride in the life he built and the people he loved. He was known for his strong will and stubborn nature, but those who knew him best also knew that beneath that determination was a caring heart and a willingness to help those around him.

Louie also had a mischievous side and was known to be quite the instigator. He had a way of stirring things up, giving someone a hard time, or starting a little trouble just to get a reaction—and more often than not, he was probably enjoying the whole thing.

Louie dedicated nearly 40 years of his life to driving truck for Mark and Doug Zieman at Cherry Valley Trucking. His work was more than just a job—it was something he took great pride in. He especially enjoyed spending time at the shop with his friends, gathered around the round table, sharing stories, giving each other a hard time, and enjoying the friendships he had made over the years. He also loved working on trucks and equipment and staying busy doing what he knew best.

Above all, Louie treasured his family. He is survived by his sons, Heath (Chris)Landt and Preston (Sophie)Landt. He was a grandfather to Trent Landt (Andrea), Ryne Landt, and Layla Landt, and a great-grandfather to Ben, Ella, and Lily.

He is also survived by his brothers, Dennis (Sharon) Landt and Loren “Schavy” Landt; and his sisters, Betty Lou (Bob) Handke , Mary Ann Koehn, and Lorna (Dave) Jones .

Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenz and LuNida Landt; his sister-in-law, Mary Landt; and his brother-in-law, Richard Koehn.

Louie will be remembered for his strong work ethic, determination, stubborn spirit, caring heart, and mischievous sense of humor. He leaves behind a family who loved him, friends who enjoyed his company, and countless memories from the many years he spent working, helping others, and, of course, instigating a little trouble whenever the opportunity presented itself.

His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. And knowing Louie, he probably would have wanted the last word.

A private burial with family will be held the morning of September 26th. A celebration of Louie’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the shop at Cherry Valley Trucking in Luana. Family, friends, coworkers, and all who knew and loved Louie are welcome to come together, share memories, tell stories, and celebrate the life of a truly unforgettable man. Food and drinks will be provided as we gather together to remember and celebrate Louie.
