Obituary

Phyllis Joan Parr Age 91, passed away in Spencer, IA on Aug 31, 2020 as a resident of St. Luke Luther Home. Phyllis was born August 8, 1929 in Wagner, SD and grew up in the town of Sioux Rapids, IA. Phyllis was a H.S. Baton Twirler in Marching Band and worked selling popcorn in the Town's Movie Theater. Post H.S. she worked as a Telephone Operator in Storm Lake, IA then returned to Sioux Rapids, IA to work as a Salesperson for Warden's Variety Store. Phyllis married Stanley Clyde Parr in famed 'Little Brown Church' in Nashua, IA featured in the song 'The Church in the Wildwood' and became a housewife and mother on a farm southwest of Webb, IA enjoying gardening and flower beds, growing sweet corn, picking apples and cherries. She helped with raising the hogs, cattle and chickens ... she 'did not like those chickens!' Later she moved to Spencer, IA to finish raising her children and live rest of her life. She is preceded by death of her father Otis Lester Menefee, mother, Minnie Elizabeth Noltimier Menefee, sister, Lavone Menefee, brother, Freddie Menefee, husband (later divorced) Stanley Clyde Parr, daughter Joan Marie Parr, still born son John Parr. She is survived by her sons Dennis M. Parr-Wichita, KS, Steven H. Parr-Cedar Rapids, IA and Donald E. Parr-Spirit Lake, IA. We will miss you and love you forever! Special thanks to the loving and supportive community and staff of Riverside Terrace and St Luke Lutheran Home for the long care of our Mother! A planned graveside memorial by family will be scheduled at a later date.
