Max Diers, 65, passed away on August 26, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. He was born on October 31, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, a Halloween birthday that became a cherished family tradition, with his celebrations decorated in Halloween style year after year.

Max was a graduate of Jefferson High School. He went on to work for Whirlpool as a factory assembler, giving 25 years of service before his retirement. During his years there, he became well known for his sense of humor and spirit, arriving to work barking and earning the nickname “Big Dog.” True to his nature, he always put a smile on everyone’s face.

He was a member of Cedar Hills Community Church and was active as a scout leader for the Boy Scouts while his sons were involved. Max was a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan who enjoyed watching movies; above all, he loved spending time with his family and his rescued pugs. His favorite thing to do was fishing, a simple pleasure that brought him lasting happiness.

Max is survived by his wife, Rae Diers; his sons, Jared (Stephanie) Diers, and Jessie (Holly) Diers; his parents, Gearheart and Ruth Diers; his brothers, Kurt and Carl Diers; his sister, Jana (Terry) Diers; and his father-in-law, Bob Carlo. He will be remembered with love by his family and by all who knew him for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought into everyday life.

He leaves behind a memory marked by laughter, devotion to family, faithful work, and the kind of personality that made others feel welcome. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
