Mary Jo Slocum

Mary Jo Slocum (Lumsden), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on August 11, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on June 15, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa.

Mary Jo was born June 15th, 1948, in Waterloo, the daughter of Howard and Agnes (Meany) Lumsden. She graduated in 1966 from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, Iowa and married Dale "Mike" Slocum on December 27th 1971. Together they raised her daughter and his 4 children in Cedar Rapids. She is remembered as a loving wife to the late Dale "Mike" Slocum, who preceded her in death. She was preceded as well by her parents and step-daughter, Lori Beverly.

Throughout her life, Mary Jo was known for her devotion to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Dena Dunkelberger; her sisters, Sally and Marlys; and a large extended family that brought her pride and joy. Her legacy lives on through her grand-children Joe (Caitlin) and Marcus Slocum (Dena), Danielle (Daniel) Stoker & Jessica (Richard) Davidson (Lori), Zach (Genevieve), Justin (Lisa) and Kristin (Ashlee) Slocum (Tammy), Clay and Cord (Zaneta) Slocum (Jeff), as well as her step-children Tammy, Jeff (April) and Greg Slocum.

Mary Jo was further blessed with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren: Nicolas, Shayna, Rhiana, Juniper, Christopher, Seth, Harley, Sandy, Eldon, Joe, Josef, Bennett, Aspen, Eden, Chloe, Madalyn, Mason, Audrey, Amelia, Colt, Eleanor, Henry, and Charlotte. Each one was a source of delight and pride for her.

Mary Jo’s memory will be cherished by her family and all who were touched by her compassion and spirit.
