Kevin Gustave Anderson, May 17, 1957 – November 6, 2025
Kevin Gustave Anderson of Kalo, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, after a courageous 15-year battle with cancer.
Kevin was born on May 17, 1957, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Earl ("Gus") and Karen (McCarty) Anderson.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 38 and a half years, Donna (Thompson) Anderson. Their love story began on May 28, 1982, when Donna spotted Kevin across a crowded disco and asked him to dance—a moment that sparked 43 years of adventure and devotion.
Kevin had two daughters, Karleen and Rachel (Duemece) Anderson (grandchildren Daniel Aragon, Dylan Aragon, and Devan (Ryan) Segura, (great grandson Vayden Segura) from a previous marriage to Lynnette Saliger. He and Donna had two more children, Tyler Anderson (grandson AJ Anderson) and Katie (Tom) Taylor (grandchildren Cameron Flowers, Landin, Maci, and Gracie Taylor)
Kevin is also survived by his brother-in-law Bruce (Joyce) Thompson (children Jarrod (Carole), Jayson, and Britney (Darren) Haga (grandchildren Calvin and Reese)), as well as his sister-in-law Brenda Thompson (children Amber Barker, grandchildren Aubree, Averie, and Addison).
He treasured time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, concerts, and school activities whenever he could.
Kevin spent much of his youth at the home of his maternal grandparents, Dale and Leona McCarty, in Kalo, where he made many fond memories. He attended Fort Dodge Senior High and later completed an apprenticeship in plumbing.
In the early 1980s, Kevin worked at Carnation before going on to own and operate his own construction company, a trade he loved and continued throughout his life. He later began a professional driving career, working for Umthuns Trucking, Drayman Intermodal, Smithway, and finally Van Diest Supply Company, where he drove for 28 years before retiring on May 6, 2022.
Kevin was a man of many passions. He loved hunting, boating, camping with family and many special friends from around Fort Dodge, around Texas, and around the U.S, always looking forward to long weekends, summer trips, and, more recently, winters spent in Texas. A talented woodworker, Kevin enjoyed making board games for his loved ones. He also loved cooking, grilling, dining out, listening to music, and riding motorcycles.
Kevin had a great sense of humor and cherished time spent around a campfire sharing jokes, playing games, and enjoying a good drink. He had a sweet tooth and especially loved the treats his wife made for him—he was the best Kringla helper anyone could ask for.
Throughout his life, Kevin was an animal lover and shared a special bond with several loyal companions, especially his rat terrier, Mickey, who misses their walks, camping trips, and shared snacks.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the care teams at Mary Greeley Medical Center and the University of Iowa Hospital for their kindness and compassion toward Kevin and his loved ones.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Earl ("Gus") and Karen Anderson; paternal grandparents Earl and Verna Anderson; maternal grandparents Dale and Leona McCarty; and dear friend Becky Dunbar.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
