Obituary

Kelly D. Starry was born on December 7, 1961, in Marion, Iowa to his parents, Paul Leon and Lois Elaine (Young) Starry. He grew up majority of his life in Central City. Kelly graduated from Marion High School, from the Class of 1980. He continued his education through Kirkwood College, where Kelly obtained an associate degree. Kelly learned to become an Electrician and established his own career. He was an independent contractor and served many people with his trade skills. Kelly met Karen Hutchins and the two began a courtship. On the Fall of October 9, 2021, Kelly took Karen's hand in marriage, and they became one. Kelly enjoyed being outdoors. A few of his hobbies were hunting, fishing and camping. He really loved spending time with his family as much as possible. Kelly would play with his grandchildren and have a fun time with them. He also loved hanging out with his dog, Duke. Every now and then, Kelly enjoyed playing pool with friends and family. He was also very handy around the house. Kelly could fix anything and worked well with his hands! Kelly was known for his outgoing and fun personality. He never took life too seriously and he never knew a stranger! Kelly made many dear friends along the way. He had a blast with everyone, no matter what he was doing. Kelly was always laughing and had a smile on his face. He enjoyed life as it came. Kelly was a jokester and liked to make others laugh too. Kelly D. Starry passed away on January 28, 2025, in Cedar Rapids at St. Luke's Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Leon and Lois Elaine (Young) Starry and his sister, Shirley Dunham. Those left to cherish Kelly's memory are his wife, Karen; children, Ashley Starry and Olivia Bast; grandchildren, Nikolai, Brinnley Ivy and Elizabeth Jones; Sister Kay (David) Rike, brothers, David Starry, Terry Starry, Lynn Starry; Dog, Duke Starry; and a host of extended family and beloved friends.
