IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Kathryn

Borseth

May 8, 1971 – April 2, 2026

Obituary

It is with a dash of humor and a sprinkle of wit that we remember Kathryn "Kathy" Borseth, who graced this world with her presence from May 8, 1971, until April 2, 2026. Kathryn, also known as Kat, was a fiercely independent spirit, known for her resilience and courage. In the words of Mark Twain, "She was not an old lady, but a child with white hair and many experiences." Hers was a life well-lived, filled with laughter, warmth, and an uncanny knack for finding a bargain, whether at the Dollar Tree or on Temu. Born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa, Kathryn went on to lead an adventurous life that saw her relocating to Cedar Rapids, living in England for many years, settling in Kentucky, and finally returning to her beloved Iowa. Always one to enjoy the simple things in life, Kathryn loved nothing more than losing herself in a good movie, popcorn in hand, with her grandaughter by her side. Her love for bingo and online games, particularly FarmVille, was only surpassed by her immense love for rescuing animals, a passion that led her to start ELLIOT Rescue in Kentucky. Her garden was her sanctuary, a place where she could propagate anything she touched and where her love for life and nature bloomed brightly. Kathryn was a collector of "THINGS!", as she would put it, and her eclectic collection, along with her witty sense of humor and unique perspective on life, brought joy to all who knew her. Like Oscar Wilde, Kathryn believed, "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Her unapologetic authenticity and courage to stand by her opinions were just a few of the many reasons she was loved by so many. Kathryn leaves behind a large and loving family, including her children Heaven (Terry) Borseth, Aarika (Jerry) Case, Tristin (Shawn) Lafler, Kitira Borseth, Alec Borseth, Damien Winter, Connor Winter, Landin Flores, and Shannen (Bernie) Niemeyer. She also leaves behind her domestic partner, Steve Winter, many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, siblings, and her special friend, Gina Wheatley. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Donna and Enoch Epps, her step-father John Bailey, her brother William Smith, and her son-in-law Jay Enyart, among others. As we remember Kathryn, let's recall her laughter, her courage, and her unyielding spirit. Let's remember her as the witty, funny, resilient woman she was, always ready to lend a hand or a smile. In lieu of sadness, let's celebrate Kathryn's life in a way she would have wanted—with laughter, love, and a great deal of humor. Please leave your memories, photos, and stories of Kathryn on her memorial page, so we can all remember her as she was: vibrant, unique, and unforgettable.
