A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford, Iowa. Visitation with family will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the service at 5:00 p.m. Karen passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at her home in Des Moines, Iowa. Survivors include her children - son Kyle Coates of Des Moines and daughter Kailey Coates of Newton, her mother - Ellie Bullington of Waukee, father - Jerry Doxey (Regina) of Omaha, NE, adoptive father - Dan Garoutte (Nancy) of Shellsburg, sisters - Lori Kennedy (Ed) of Indianola and Jen Adams (Jason) of Newton, a half sister - Beth Doxey of Janesville, WI and a half brother - Rob Doxey (Kelly) of Milton, WI. Karen was preceded in death by her step-father Jim Bullington of Hartford, IA, both maternal grandparents - William and Bonnie Miller of Hartford, IA, and her paternal grandmother Ruth Doxey of Blunt, SD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
