Gary J. Sauter, 70, of Indianola, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Knoxville Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alta, Iowa. A private family burial will take place in the Beuna Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa. Gary was born in Cherokee, Iowa on April 26, 1947 to Orlan and Alice (Galvin) Sauter. He attended Alta High School and graduated in 1965. Following school he joined the Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. When he returned home he married Shari Christensen on September 17, 1967. Gary worked as an Optical Lab Tech prior to his retirement. Gary was a member of the Indianola American Legion Post #165, the Lions Club, and the Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, tinkering with his cars, golfing, being outside, and gardening. Those left to cherish Garys loving memories are his children Jamie (Ali) Sauter of Indianola, IA, and Chris (Beth) Sauter of Carlisle, IA; grandchildren Teegan, Adelyn, and Jobee; step-grandchild Tanner Ginn; sisters Judy (Jerry Lake) Bailey, Merrie (Don) Post, and Jan (Jon Nedved) Peterson; sister-in-laws Becky (Jerry) Larson, and Julie (Craig) Schuchard. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to HCI Care Services, 213 E. Main St., Knoxville, Iowa, 50138. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Shari. Celebrate Life Iowa has been entrusted with Garys cremation care.
