Obituary

Floyd Martin Binns, 74, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on February 6, 2024. Floyd was born on April 19, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Samuel and Eva (McClaskey) Binns. He grew up in Des Moines, graduating Lincoln High School in 1967. After high school, Floyd served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, Floyd lived and worked in Des Moines, Clear Lake, Latimer and Webster City, Iowa. Floyd was reunited with high school classmate, Georgie Olson, at their 30th class reunion. They were married on May 5, 2007 in Walnut Woods State Park. Family meant a great deal to Floyd. He loved spending time with family. In his younger years, he loved spending time and helping out with his nieces and nephews and later in life with his grandchildren. He loved teasing and joking around with everyone he met. He grew up attending a Presbyterian church and later with Georgie he attended Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. He enjoyed spending quality time with those he loved and was always there to help out a friend or neighbor in need. Floyd will be remembered by many, including his wife Georgie; stepdaughters Carey (John) Stover and Chrissy Tassin; grandchildren Brianna, Nick, Natalie, Nathan, Nevada and Jack and great-grandchildren Miliana, Malik and Maliya and nieces Michelle, Daina and Mikki and nephews Chris, Dan and Rick. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Eva; sisters Kathy and Mary, and his brother Thomas. Celebrate Life Iowa has been entrusted with the care of Floyd and his family.
