Douglas Jay Olsen
December 15, 1960 – October 14, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Douglas Jay Olsen, who left this world on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in Kingsley, IA.
Doug was not dealt an easy hand in life or in death, but from his lows, he created a beautiful life for himself and his family. His tenacity and ability to persevere helped him make connections and create lasting impacts.
Doug was the kind of man who made life better just by being there. He didn't need to say much. His presence alone brought comfort. You always knew that if things went sideways, Doug would have your back. No questions asked, no judgments passed. He was there when it counted, especially when you needed someone the most.
Born in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 15, 1960, to Jerold and Doreen Olsen, Doug grew up with a strong sense of strength, qualities that defined him throughout his life.
Whether you were family, a friend, or neighbor, Doug made it his business to show up. He took pride in fixing anything broken. He was to be a steady force in the lives of those around him.
He is survived by his partner, Robin Giedd, his three daughters, Ashli Olsen (Jacob Smith), Alissa (Thad) Peck, and Atalie Olsen (Andrea Thorson), his sister Jeri (Ted) Wurth, brother, Dwayne Olsen (Barb Sulzbach), grandchildren; Lili Olsen, Tripton Peck, Layna Peck, Linus Smith, and his dog Remi. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Each of whom carry a piece his legacy. Doug taught us, not with words, but with actions on how to be thoughtful, dependable, and deeply human.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 3pm to 6pm at Two Rivers Golf Club in North Sioux City, SD.
Doug Olsen—our father, our friend—you left us too soon and you will be missed more than words can ever say.
