DeAnne
Carlson
Feb 5, 1953 — Jul 10, 2026
West Liberty
DeAnne was born February 5, 1953, the daughter of the late Robert and Colleen Carlson. She graduated from Urbandale High School and later attended Kirkwood Community College to earn a degree in sign language interpretation. She retired from Des Moines Public Schools, where she worked as a sign language interpreter.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Mike Grimes. She is survived by her two sons, Christopher (Beth) Carlson of Urbandale, IA, and Nathan Howell of Las Vegas, NV; seven brothers and sisters: Steve (Jenny), Jeanne, Susie (John), Bob, Mark (Victoria), Peg (Tony) Nopoulos, and Kevin (Lisa) of Ohio; and six grandchildren: Ella, Devin, Jaxson, Connor, Logan, and Athyna.
DeAnne enjoyed living on a farm in West Liberty where she raised goats and lived close to her sister Peg and brother-in-law Tony, who lovingly cared for her. She was a kind person who never complained and loved to help others. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, walks in the woods, stargazing, and collecting geodes. She was strong, both emotionally and physically and was just caring for her goats last week.
As we mourn the loss of DeAnne, we also take comfort in the fact that she lived a fulfilling life filled with love, kindness, and empathy. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts she touched and the love she shared. May she rest in peace.
Family and friends are planning a private memorial service.
