David James Thompson JR., age 43, was born on February 8, 1982, to Vicky Thompson Hollis and the late David Thompson Sr. David passed away on December 23, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital.
David was a strong, private man who always looked out for the people he loved. He was a hard worker, a natural protector, and someone who brought laughter into any room with his jokes and stories. David enjoyed watching WWE wrestling, reading, working on puzzles, playing his games, and spending meaningful time with his son-moments that meant everything to him. If David loved you, you knew it. He loved quietly and fiercely.
In recent years, David experienced a powerful turning point in his life. He gave his life to Christ and got baptized on August 24, 2025, under the leadership of pastors Tim and Donna Pridegon at Lifeline Ministries in Cedar Rapids. IA. He also became engaged to Brandi Riley and embraced a renewed sense of purpose and hope. The ones closest to him witnessed the growth, peace, and determination he carried as he worked to build a better future.
David was preceded in death by his father, David Thompson Sr., his son Traychon Taylor, his uncle Willie Douglas, his great-grandmother Ida Young, and his grandfather Michael Hunt Sr.
David leaves to cherish his memories his mother Vicky (Jack) Hollis, his son Jayden Thompson, his grandson Tyler, his fiancée Brandi Riley, his grandmother Sara Hunt, his sisters Sara Thompson and Renee Norfleet, his brother Donald (Travistein) Thompson, a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will forever carry him in their hearts.
Though his time here was short, David's life mattered deeply. We take comfort in knowing he found faith, peace, and purpose, and that his love and legacy will continue to live on through those who loved him.
