Obituary

Daniel George Ohm, aka "Delbert" of Jamaica, Iowa; born in Guthrie Center, Iowa on September 3, 1958, passed away with family by his side on August 10th, 2023, following his long battle with cancer. A celebration of Delbert's life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Yale Community Building, 206 N Main St, Yale, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. If you wish to send a card, please send to Beverly Ohm P.O. Box 137 Yale, Iowa 50277. Delbert was the third-born child (twin) to George and Beverly Ohm from Yale, Iowa. He married Cathy Kirtley in a private ceremony in Jamaica July 2023. Delbert was preceded in death by his father, George R. Ohm on Sept 1, 2022; oldest brother Mike Ohm on July 22, 2023, paternal grandparents, Raymond and Irene Ohm; and maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Pauline Wood. He is survived by his wife Cathy, mother, Beverly of Yale, Iowa. Children: son Logan of Perry, Iowa, daughter Danielle and his granddaughter Addie of Newton, Iowa. Siblings: (twin) Dennis (Susan) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska - children Joe, Justin & Megan. Patrick (Diane) of Mesa, Arizona - children Brad and Amanda. Sisters, Cheryl (Nick) of Jefferson, Iowa - son (Jason); and Christie (Rod) of Yale, Iowa - children Dylan and Dalton. Delbert graduated with the class of 1976 from Yale-Jamaica-Bagley School District where he participated in football and mischievous activities. During his high school years he worked for a local farmer and was a Lifeguard at Springbrook State Park. Following graduation, some of his work included: Whisner Construction in Perry, Iowa. Moving to Douglas Wyoming where he worked in the construction trade and enjoyed cliff diving at Glendo Reserve. Additionally, he worked building construction in the Denver area where he was a cliff diver in the Casa Bonita restaurant (always an entertainer). Returning to Iowa he worked private construction in the Y-J-B area and then moved to Marshalltown where he continued his trade working for a private construction firm remodeling projects such as the courthouse in Marengo Iowa. Returning to the Yale area he was then hired by the Lake Panorama Association (LPA) in the road maintenance facility. During this period, he purchased his home and opened the Do Drop in the old shop area of the closed High School in Jamaica. He left the LPA to work for Guthrie County Road department as a maintainer (road grader) operator in the Bagley, Bayard and Coon Rapids rural area. Delbert retired due to medical issues in 2021 where he remained in his home till his passing. Delbert truly loved his friends and family especially those who were with him through his darkest time. Owning and working the Do Drop, was a passion of sharing time with longtime friends and meeting new ones, never met someone he didn't know. He enjoyed collecting "antiques" on his travels and contemplating the next great thing. Relaxation for Delbert was riding his bike around the country with family and friends. Always a new place to go where fun was bound to be had by all until Buford P. Justice was in the vicinity. Denny: "I will miss my life long best friend". Together: you could hear one of us say "Watch This" frequently soon followed "oh -- that's going to leave a mark!". (Two skateboards and a lawn chair is the next mode of transportation)! He feared nothing and challenged everything. He enjoyed helping others. Especially friends with whatever they needed. Always first there to help and the last to leave. It just seemed like there was never a task too big or too complicated for him to figure out, even if it was trial by fire. In his spare time (inspector gadget) was usually in the shop/home working on his next great idea. He had a creative/inventive mindset, making some things better like reinventing the koozie using dog food cans, moonshine, or building his own solar panel and gazebo for his home. In the end we went skydiving, we went Rocky Mountain climbing and we spent 2.7 second with a friend named Busch Light. He lived life BIG and loved it. He will be missed by many and so thankful for those who touched and shared his life.
