Obituary

Cynthia Sharkey, fondly known as Cindy, was born on the 13th of October, 1957. A woman of a huge heart and radiant spirit, she lived a life that was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and resilience. Cindy had a natural propensity to care for others, and she dedicated her life to serving as a remarkable nurse, treating her patients as if they were part of her family. Her generosity and caring nature extended beyond her professional life, as she was known to open her heart and home to anyone in need. As the famous saying goes, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Cindy embodied this philosophy, leaving a lasting legacy of love, care, and service. On May 22, 1976, Cindy and Terry were married in Lake City. They had two children, Jolynn and David, and then helped raise nieces, nephews and many others. Living most of her life in Lake City, Cindy's love for caring for family and friends was evident to all who knew her. Camping and fishing were not just pastimes for Cindy, but a way to connect with all her family and friends. Shared moments of joy, laughter, and love are memories that her children and grandchildren Jolynn Nielsen, David (Melissa) Sharkey, and Ember Blankenship; Melissa (Andrew) Sharkey, Tyler, Hannah Nielsen, Becca, Isaiah, Noah and Lizzy, Brooklyn Sharkey, Dann, Jupiter Nielsen and Violet Boehmer will cherish forever. Her sisters, Teresa (Steve) Montes, Linda Edwards, Laura (David) DeVries, Jess (Chad) Meyer, her brothers, Pat (Shelley) Blankenship, Jeff (Karen) DeVries, Mike, Joey, Tim DeVries also survive her, share in these precious memories of their time together. Cindy will also be greatly missed by her aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her extended network of family and friends. Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Sharkey, her mother, Sharon Blankenship, her father, Dean DeVries, her grandparents, Helen and Pete DeSart, Madeline Johnson, Irma and Lubert DeVries, her brother, Kenny DeVries, her nephew, Justin Blankenship, her in-laws Bud and Joan Sharkey, and her son-in-law, Danny Nielsen. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the countless lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in our hearts and in the love she shared. We invite you to share your memories and photos of Cindy on her memorial page. Your stories and pictures will help us remember and celebrate her life, her achievements, and the profound difference she made in all our lives. As we remember Cindy, may we honor her by living as she did with compassion and love for all. Please join us at Woodlawn Christian Church on Thursday, April 23.
