Carol Jeanne Flickinger (nee Warden)

Carol Jeanne Flickinger, 86, of Newton, IA, passed away peacefully at Newton Village in Newton. She chose to forgo treatment for her pancreatic cancer and experience a peaceful end on her terms. She passed away on August 30, 2026.

Carol was born September 30, 1939, to parents Kelly and Virginia Warden in Cushing, OK. They moved frequently while Carol was a child, living wherever her father’s work took the family. She graduated from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, IA, in 1957, married her husband Frank Flickinger in March 1957, and settled in Keosauqua, IA, where they raised three children, Jon, Jim, and Kaye. Carol worked at a variety of jobs, including as a physician's assistant in both Keosauqua and Chariton, IA. She bought, refinished, and sold antiques and eventually settled in Montrose, SD, where she continued her antique business and worked at various companies until she was ready to retire. Retiring took her to Newton, IA to be closer to her grown children and their families. Her family remembers her as a fun, loving person who found humor in most everything. She loved and was devoted to her many pets over the years, enjoyed reading, gardening, frequent visits to Arizona, and especially camping.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Virginia Warden, her step-mother, Mary Warden, former husband, Frank Flickinger, and brother, Pat Warden.

She is survived by her sons Jon (Brenda) Flickinger of Buckeye, AZ, Jim (Twyla) Flickinger of Monroe, IA, and daughter Kaye (Tony) Tiritilli of Prior Lake, MN; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother Mike Warden; sister Cindy Warden; and nieces & nephews.

A celebration of life was held with her on June 26, 2026, where her family shared memories and admired the resilience she displayed throughout her life. No services will be held per her wishes.

The family appreciates the care provided by St. Croix Hospice and Newton Village caregivers. Donations may be made in her memory to Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS) in Grinnell, IA who is caring for her dog, Webster.
