Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce Henry Tuthill, 62, of Mason City, Iowa, who left us on February 6, 2026. A memorial service to honor Bruce's life will be held at the Rhythm Church, located at 21 8th St. SE in Mason City, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Following his memorial service, a time of refreshments and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall. He will be laid to rest at Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, Iowa, following the luncheon. Bruce was born on May 6, 1963, in Mason City, Iowa, to Richard and Marjorie (Crooks) Tuthill. He cherished his childhood in Kensett and Mason City, where he graduated from Northwood Kensett High School with the class of 1981. Bruce served his country with pride in the National Guard. He pursued his passion for art at the University of Northern Iowa, earning a degree in this beloved field. His career as an art teacher began in St. Louis brought him immense joy and fulfillment, and he was deeply admired by his students for his dedication and warmth. Bruce later earned his master's degree. He then moved to Northwood Kensett School District, where he taught for over 19 years, teaching art and special education. Once Bruce retired from teaching, he began working at Wal-Mart, where he became a team lead. Bruce always enjoyed the people that he worked with. Bruce had a zest for life, particularly when it came to spending time with his family. He looked forward to treasured weekly lunch dates with his mom and delighted in creating art, drawing, painting, and even working with wood and pottery. A true friend to many, Bruce had an unparalleled generosity, always ready to lend a hand or a shoulder to those in need. His passions included working out, attending concerts at the Surf Ballroom, and engaging in activities with friends around Clear Lake. His contagious smile and kind spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Bruce was preceded in death by his dad Richard; uncles Jim, Stan, Adrian, and Cal; aunts Rosalie, Nancy, and Mary; cousin Lisa; and sister-in-law Becky. He leaves behind a loving family that includes his devoted mom, Marjorie Tuthill; siblings Rebecca (Anton) Lichtenberger, Brian (Dawn Frost) Tuthill, and Kristina (Mark) Klemz; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and close friends who will hold his memory dear. Bruce had a love for cats and rescued his cats from the Humane Society of North Iowa. In honor of Bruce's legacy, memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of North Iowa. Celebrate Life Iowa has been entrusted with the care of Bruce and his family during this heartfelt time of remembrance.
