Anthony Rohde, 78, of Davis City, Iowa, passed away on April 27, 2023.
"Tony"Anthony Roy Rohde was born in Leon Iowa on Febuary 6, 1945 to Roy R Rohde and Elva F (Rauch) Rohde and had six sisters. Tony attendend Leon High School where he excelled in football, basketball and track. After graduating high school in 1963, he married Linda L Burrell and moved to Des Moines. Tony and Linda had two children, son Anthony S. and daughter Andrea "Nicki". They first resided in an apartment on 19th street near downtown Des Moines and then moved to 48th Street in Beaverdale. They would later divorce.
Tony worked for a short time as an orderly at Methodist Hospital. In 1965, he started working for SuperValu Inc. Distribution Center. He worked there for 36yrs and was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 147. When SuperValu closed, he worked for Dahl's Grocery Store before officially retiring in 2004.
Tony had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his family. He spent countless hours playing catch, shooting baskets and playing card games with his children. Tony was always a hard worker who went above and beyond to support his family. Among many cherished memories, his daughter Nicki fondly recalled him making a surprise road trip to Peoria, Illinois in 1990 to watch her play her last college basketball game for the University of Northern Iowa against Bradley Univ. Tony lived in Grimes, Iowa for a number of years. In his early retirement, his favorite pastime was attending his grandchildren's many activities. He also became an avid bicyclist and enjoyed riding many miles on the trails in the greater Des Moines area. He was a longtime Hawkeye and NASCAR fan. He had a fondness for Chevy trucks and old western movies and tv shows, especially "Gunsmoke." Tony was a kind hearted man who would always help others in need. He was a proud donor to St Jude Children's Research Hospital and Wounded Warrior Project. Later in retirement, Tony moved to Davis City, Iowa to enjoy the quiet, small town lifestyle.
Tony loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughter Andrea "Nicki" (Rohde) Atwood of West Des Moines, IA and Manny Atwood of Leon, IA. Son, Anthony S Rohde (Debbie). Grandchildren: Grant Atwood (wife Cady) of Osceola, IA, Emma Atwood of Maryville, MO, Blake Rohde and Zach Rohde. Sisters: Evelyn (Rohde) Saunders of Brunswick, ME, Carolyn (Rohde) McClaran of Phoenix, AZ, Gracelyn (Rohde) McKern of Des Moines, IA, Jerilyn (Rohde) Nelson (husband LeRoy) of Stevens Point, WI. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Elva Rohde, sisters: Marilyn (Rohde) Ridgway and Roselyn (Rohde) Amann, nephew Randy McKern, and brothers-in-law Robert McKern, Richard Ridgway, Dave McClaran and Richard Decker.
Family and friends are invited to Tony's Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 11th 1:00 -3:00 at the Davis City Community Center in Davis City, Iowa.
